Mission

The Republic of Texas Parrot Head Club and its parent organization Parrot Heads in Paradise, Inc. are not-for-profit organizations for people who enjoy Jimmy Buffett's music and possess a tropical spirit. Our function is to provide members with social activities and to be involved with community service, as well as charitable and environmental causes.

How did RoTPHC start?

For several years Bill Taggart and Don Sansing had been thinking about starting up a social club in Commerce that would have something to do with partying, tropical shirts and listening to Trop-Rock music.

So…………Don contacted the national headquarters for Parrot Heads in Paradise, Inc. to see what it would take to set up a chapter in Commerce. He found that the PHiP stated reason for its very existence was to "Party with a Purpose" just what we were looking for!

They checked on area clubs but Don figured that no one would let him join an existing club so he would have to start one himself. It’s sort of like Groucho Marx once said, “No one would want to be a member of a club that would let me join.”

According to the PHiP guidelines, we had to have a petition with 10 members to get approved, so we hit up all the folks that had been Tailgating at the previous two Buffet Concerts in Frisco and come up with a dozen “party hardy” potential members and the rest is history.

The original thoughts that this would to be a good thing were;

  1. We all love the Buffett lifestyle,
  2. We all have a bit of a party animal sleeping within us,
  3. We all love deliciously ridiculous drink, food and tropical shirts,
  4. Parrot Heads in Paradise, Inc. is a Not-For-Profit Corporation, whose stated purpose is to assist in community and environmental concerns and provide a variety of social activities for people who are interested in the music of Jimmy Buffett and the tropical lifestyle he personifies.
  5. And mainly because we missed partying with all our buddies and we already had the shirts.
